About Incident.

Shortly after 1 AM, police responded to 36 Weybosset Street — Layali — for a report of an assault with a firearm.

Layali opened in 2018 at the location that had formerly been home to the Custom House Tavern.

On Saturday, the victim told police he had gotten into a fight with the suspect in the bar, which resulted in the suspect being escorted out of the bar.

The restaurant manager reportedly went outside to attempt to diffuse the situation, at which time the victim went out to confront the suspect as well, and a physical altercation ensued.

The victim told police that the suspect went to his car nearby — a black Bentley — and pulled out a gun and pointed it at him and threatened to shoot him.

At that point, the victim said he went back into the bar fearing for his life, and the suspect fled.

Detectives are currently investigating.
