According to police, the hospital security officer said that an employee had brought a gun to work.

The security officer told police the gun was seized, rendered safe, and turned into him by a nurse in the emergency room.

The owner of the gun was later identified as Lalayna Grilley, age 38, who police reported is a nurse in the emergency room and was not on the scene at the time the gun was discovered.

“[Grilley] is facing charges of possessing a firearm without a license,” Providence Police Major David Lapatin confirmed with GoLocal on Monday.
