RI Coronavirus Cases Jump More Than 300% - 102 New Cases As Testing Decreases

Rhode Island coronavirus numbers are going in the wrong direction. The number of new cases jumped more than 300% from the July 3 low of 23 to 102 new cases reported on Tuesday by the Rhode Island Department of Health.

In addition, the number of hospitalizations has also risen for the second day.

The New York Times now lists Rhode Island as one of the states with the highest percentage of new cases nationally.  Rhode Island continues to be ranked 5th for most deaths per 100,000 in population.

Simultaneously, Rhode Island’s testing is dropping. In mid-June, tests were averaging 4,000 per day on weekdays.

On Monday, less than half that number was tested — just 1,911.

Dr. Michael Fine, the former Rhode Island Director of Health warns that while the hospitalizations continue at a comparatively low number — the rise is an indication that Rhode Island is going in the wrong direction.
