Democratic candidate for the second congressional district Sarah Morgenthau is slamming GOP candidate Allan Fung for having House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy at a fundraiser in Rhode Island.

“Allan Fung is rolling out the red carpet for Kevin McCarthy and his radical far-right agenda, proving once again he is out-of-touch with the voters of the Second District,” said Morgenthau campaign manager Bryan McNamara.

“Rhode Islanders are looking for a Congresswoman ready to deliver results to curb inflation, lower costs, protect our environment, and deliver jobs right here in the Ocean State, not another career politician looking to toe the party line,” Morgenthau said. “With Roe v. Wade repealed and our fundamental rights under attack, I draw the best contrast with Allan Fung, both as a woman and as the only candidate with experience delivering results in Washington.”

After the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol in 2021, McCarthy criticized President Donald Trump and then almost immediately reversed course.

The New York Times reported, "McCarthy went so far as to say he would push Mr. Trump to resign immediately: 'I’ve had it with this guy,' he told a group of Republican leaders, according to an audio recording of the conversation obtained by the Times."

But days later, McCarthy flew down to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump.

“Today, President Trump committed to helping elect Republicans in the House and Senate in 2022,” the statement from McCarthy’s office issued later in January of 2021 read. Trump’s team told Fox News the former president would promote GOP House candidates in the next election.

The Fung campaign refused to respond to questions about McCarthy's visit.
