RI GOP Party Chair: 19 to Watch in 2019

Rhode Island Republican Party Chair Brandon Bell was defeated in his run for the General Assembly in 2018.

Republican Cranston Mayor Allan Fung lost in his second attempt at the Rhode Island Governor’s office, after a bruising primary that saw former opponent and House Minority Leader opt to endorse former Republican-turned-independent (and honorary chair for President Donald Trump’s campaign in Rhode Island) Joe Trillo. 

There are no Republicans in the top statewide — or federal — elected positions in the state.

As GoLocal reported in November, after being unable to take out a vulnerable Democrat in Governor Gina Raimondo, an embattled Speaker in Nicholas Mattiello, losing two House seats in the Rhode Island General Assembly — and failing to take any statewide positions — can the Grand Old Party rebound in the Ocean State?  

VIBCO CEO and RI Commerce board member Karl Wadensten, who entered the Lt. Governor race briefly — four days, to be exact — as a Republican, joined GoLocal CEO Kate Nagle on LIVE where he said the RI GOP needs to go through a “cultural change.”
