The comeback started when Garoppolo hit Dion Lewis on a slant route in the endzone to cut the Patriots deficit to 16-14. After a defensive stop, Garoppolo moved the Patriots into field goal range after a 7 play, 27 yard drive. The result was Stephen Gostkowski kicking a 53 yard field goal to put the Patriots up 17-16 in the game.

The Carolina offense was unable to do anything in their final drive giving the Patriots the ball back. Garoppolo and the offense would pick up a couple of first downs and run the clock out to seal the win.

Brady to Chandler For a TD

Down 6-0 in the final two minute of the half Tom Brady finally threw his first touchdown pass of the preseason and it went to tight end Scott Chandler at the end of the first half. The pass came after a drive in which Brady went 5 of 6 for 71, by far the best stretch of plays for Brady and the first team offense in this preseason.

Brady played the entire first half and went 7 of 13 for 84 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

One Preseason Game Left

The Patriots conclude the preseason on Thursday, September 3rd when they host the New York Giants at Gillette Stadium. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m.
