Brown to Host First Pride Night on Saturday Against Dartmouth

The Brown Bears men’s basketball team will celebrate LGBT pride on Saturday night when they host Dartmouth at the Pizzitola Center.

In the game, the Bears will wear rainbow uniforms in appreciation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students, faculty, staff and community.

"I'll say this, we are excited to be hosting this event on Saturday night, I believe that it is the first of its kind at Brown, so we are excited to be part of it," said Brown head coach Mike Martin.

The game will feature the Providence men’s Gay Choir performing the National Anthem as well as a performance from the East Providence High School band.

The first 200 students in the building will receive free Brown pride t-shirts.

The event is being held in partnership with the Brown LGBTQ Center. The Center works to develop and sustain a safe, welcoming, supportive, fully inclusive and affirming experience at Brown.

"At Brown, we are a campus and a basketball team that supports LGBT groups, as well as all individuals in our community, so we are looking forward to being part of the night,” said Martin.

Other college and professional sports franchises to host pride nights include Pace University basketball, the NHL's St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers, Major League Baseball's New York Mets, and NBA's Portland Trail Blazers among others.

Game time is set for 6 p.m.
