Brown Coach Martin to be Inducted to New England Basketball Hall of Fame

Brown men's basketball head coach Mike Martin will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame at a ceremony at the DCU Center in Worcester on August 8th. Martin will be inducted along with members of his family, including his father Mike, his uncle Buddy, cousins Colin and Sean Tabb and his grandfather William, who played at Providence College. 

"It's a nice honor for me and it will be a privilidge to shar that moment with my father, my uncle and cousins. It should be a really great time," said Brown coach Mike Martin who is preparing for a team trip to Italy.

Martin will be inducted into the Perry category for distinguished achievement.

Mike Martin has coached the Bears for three seasons, leading Brown to a 13-15 record in his first year and finishing fourth in the Ivy League standings. 

In his second season, Martin led Brown to a 15-14 overall record and hosted Brown's first ever postseason game as they played Holy Cross in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament. 

In 2014-15, injuries and the departure of Leland King plagued the bears who are poised to come back strong in 15-16, returning defensive standout Cedric Kuakumensah as well as Steven Spieth and Tavon Blackmon. 

Mike Martin as a Player

In his four years with Brown as a player, Martin helped lead the Bears to four straight winning seasons including 2003-04 when the team finished second in the Ivy League Standings for the third time. 

In 2003, Martin helped lead Brown to a 12-2 Ivy League record and a berth in the National Invitational Tournament. 

When he graduated, Mike Martin ranked third all time at Brown in career three pointers hit with 143, ninth in career steals, 113, and tenth in career assists with 232. 

Mike Martin is from Agawam, Massachusetts where he played for his dad at Cathedral High School.

New England Basketball Hall of Fame

The New England Basketball Hall of Fame honors players and coaches who represent a variety of categories from high school players to senior adults who still play at age 65 and over. The New England basketball Hall of Fame dinner is one of the largest sports dinners in the country. 

This year's dinner is expected to host 1,900 people.
