Spieth Reaches 1,000 Career Points, Brown Holds Off St. Francis 81-71

Steven Spieth reaches 1,000 career points.
Steven Spieth reached the 1,000 career points milestone and the Brown Bears defeated St. Francis Brooklyn 81-71 at the Pizzitola Center. The win is Brown's third straight and evens their record to 4-4 on the season.

After trailing by as much as 13 points, 53-40, early in the second half, St. Francis would cut Browns lead to six, 59-53, following a dunk by Keon Williams with 10:44 to play in the game. 

Brown would use a quick 5-1 run capped off by a free throw from Obi Okolie to build their ten point lead back up, 64-54, with just under eight minutes to play. 

St. Francis would not get closer than eight points the rest of the way. 

Brown’s Fast Start 

The Bears jumped out to an early 15-2 lead in the first six minutes of the game following a three by Steven Spieth and would lead by as much as 22-9 with 10:48 to play in the half. 

Then St. Francis would make their run. 

The Terriers would go on a 9-0 run capped off by a Darrell Porter three-pointer with 6:20 left in the half to cut the Bears’ lead to 27-23. 

Brown would counter with an 8-1 run of their own to build up a 35-24 lead with 4:36 to play in the half.

They would take a ten point lead, 42-32, into the locker room. 

The Leaders 

Brown was led by freshman Joshua Howard who netted 19 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field, while also grabbing six rebounds. 

Steven Spieth followed up with 17 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field, while also pulling down six rebounds and tallying four steals. 

In the game, Spieth scored his 1,000th career point.

The Bears return to action on Saturday, December 3 when they visit Central Connecticut State. 

Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
