Five Takeaways From URI's 65-42 Win Over American

However, the Rams win came at a cost as guard E.C. Matthews went down midway through the first half while driving to the basket and grabbed his knee.

The extent of the injury is unknown as Matthews is expected to undergo further testing.
Pulling it Together
The minutes after Matthews left the game, URI struggled a bit to get things going.
American cut URI's lead to two, 22-20, after the Rams had been up 21-14, but URI recovered.
Over the next seven minutes, the Rams only allowed American three points and took a 36-23 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, American would get as close as six points, 44-38, with 12 minutes to play but URI would go on a 10-0 run to go up 54-38 and begin to put the game out of reach.
American did not get closer than 15 the rest of the way.
Next Up
The Rams host Valparaiso on Tuesday morning at the Ryan Center as part of the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon.

By comparison, American only scored seven points off of URI's 13 turnovers.

Jared Terrell picked up where he left off last season, helping to carry the URI offense in the first half.
Terrell registered 14 points on 6 of 14 shooting from the field. Ten of those points came in the first half.
Terrell also grabbed two rebounds, had two assists and had one steal.

The Rams had an issue with free throws last season and it appears to have carried over.
URI went 13 of 31 from the charity stripe for a shooting percentage of 42.
The Rams got away with it in this game as they were able to overpower American but tough games are coming up and free throws are important.
Four McGlynn
Four McGlynn made his URI debut and with Matthews going down in the first half had to play extra minutes. He delivered.
McGlynn poured in 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field, including 4 of 6 from three-point land. He also grabbed two rebounds in the game.
