Georgetown Basketball Names Patrick Ewing Head Coach

Patrick Ewing named Georgetown head coach
The Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball program has named former star Patrick Ewing as the new head coach. 

Ewing replaces former head coach John Thompson III, who was fired after 13 seasons as head coach.

The Hoyas have missed the NCAA Tournament two years in a row and finished near the bottom of the Big East Conference both years.

Patrick Ewing 

Ewing played for the Hoyas from 1981 to 1985, leading them to the national championship in 1984 while also being named a three-time All-American. 

Following his college career, Ewing went on to play for the NBA’s New York Knicks where he was an 11-time all-star, leading New York to the NBA Finals in 1994 and 1999. They lost to Houston and San Antonio respectively. 

He was also a member of the 1992 Dream Team that won the Olympic Gold Medal. 

Ewing has been an NBA assistant coach since 2002-2003 and is currently the associate head coach of the Charlotte Hornets.
