PC's Dunn Named Co-Big East Player of the Year

Providence College Friars sophomore guard Kris Dunn has been named Co-Big East Player of the Year along with Villanova's Ryan Arcidiacono, the Big East Conference announced on Wednesday.

Kris Dunn becomes the first Friar ever to win the award and and the sixth player ever to win both the Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year, which he was awarded on Monday, March 9 in the same year. Of the five previous winners, Dunn is also the first guard to win both awards.

Dunn averaged 15.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game for the Friars this season after coming off two major shoulder surgeries in the previous two years. 

Kris Dunn finished the season as the first player ever to lead the Big East in both assists, 7.7 per game, and steals, 2.8 per game. On January 29, Dunn recorded a triple-double against DePaul with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. The triple-double was the first by a Friar in eight seasons to accomplish the feat and the first Friar ever to do it in conference play. 

Like the voting for the All-Big East team, the leagues coaches voted for the players however could not vote for their own. Kris Dunn was named to the All-Big East first team on Sunday, March 9 along with teammate LaDontae Henton. 

Big East Tournament 

The Friars are back in action and will look to defend their Big East title starting on Thursday, March 12 when they take on St. John's in the first round of the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
