PC's Dunn & Bentil Named Defensive Player & Most Improved in Big East

The Big East Conference has announced that Providence College basketball star Kris Dunn has been named Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, while Ben Bentil has been named Most Improved Player. These honors come just a day after both players were named to the All-Big East First Team.

Dunn was the 2015-16 Big East Preseason Player of the Year, and led the league in steals with 2.7 per game, also good enough for third in the country.

Dunn and John Linehan (2001 and 2002) are the only Friars in history to win the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor.

Last season, Dunn was name the 2015 Big East Co-Player of the Year and the 2015 Big East Defensive Player of the Year. Dunn became the sixth player to win both awards and the first guard in the history of the league to earn those two awards in the same season.

As a freshman, Bentil averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. This season, Bentil leads the Big East in scoring with 21.2 points per game, 22.9 points per game in conference play. Bentil also averages

Bentil is the 7th Friar all-time to lead the league in scoring and the fourth Friar in the last six seasons to do it.

Bentil joins Kadeem Batts (2013) and Herbert Hill (2007) as Friar recipients of the Big East Most Improved Player Award.

Big East Tournament Time

The Friars finished the regular season with an overall record off 22-9 and a conference record of 10-8.

The Friars will be the fourth seed in this week's Big East tournament and will face fifth seeded Butler on Thursday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. PC beat Butler both times during the regular season.

Thursday's game will be shown on Fox Sports 1.
