PC Basketball Drops to 16 in National Poll

The Providence College Friars men's basketball team has dropped to 16 in the AP poll and 17 in the Coaches Poll on Monday. Providence was ranked 12th in both polls last week but dropped after losing to Seton Hall at home on Saturday, January 16. 

This marks the eighth straight week in which the Friars have been ranked.  

The Polls

The Friars dropped from 12 to 16 in the AP poll, sitting one spot behind Miami at 15 and ahead of Louisville and Butler at 17 and 18 respectively. 

Providence has dropped from 12 to 17 in the Coaches Poll, sitting one spot behind Louisville at 16 and ahead of South Carolina and Kentucky at 18 and 19 respectively. 

The Friars remain as one of four Big East teams in the polls with Xavier (5/6) and Villanova (4/4) inside the top six in both polls. 

Butler rounds out the Big East teams sitting at 18 in the AP and 23 in the Coaches Poll.

Oklahoma is ranked number one in both polls. 

RPI Ranking 

The Friars have dropped out of the RPI rankings after having the 23rd highest RPI in the country last week.

The RPI rankings measure the teams strength of schedule and is adjusted based on wins and losses and who those wins and losses come against.

Next up 

The Friars return to action tonight, when they host Butler at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. PC is 1-2 at home in Big East play so far this season. 

Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
