PC Basketball Falls to 12 in National Polls

The Providence College Friars men's basketball team dropped to number 12 in both the AP and Coaches Poll on Monday, after losing at home to Marquette, 65-64, last week. 

This marks the seventh straight week in which the Friars have been ranked. 

The Polls

In the AP Poll, PC is ranked ahead of Virginia and Kentucky at 13 and 14 and behind SMU and West Virginia at 10 and 11, respectively. 

In the Coaches Poll, PC is ranked ahead of Kentucky and Texas A & M at 13 and 14 while ranked behind West Virginia and Virginia at 10 and 11 respectively.  

Providence is one of four Big East teams in the national rankings along with Villanova, Xavier and Butler. 

Villanova and Xavier are inside the top ten in both polls. 

Kansas is ranked number one in both polls.

RPI Rankings 

The Friars now have the 23rd highest RPI in the country. Last week providence was ranked 9th but dropped after losing at home. 

The RPI rankings measure the teams strength of schedule and is adjusted based on wins and losses and who those wins and losses come against.

Next up 

Providence returns to action on Tuesday, January 12 when they visit Creighton. 

Providence is 14-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Big East.

Tip off is set for 8:30 p.m.
