PC Basketball Ranked 8th in National Poll

The Providence College Friars men's basketball team jumped four spots from 12 to 8 in the AP Poll and four spots from 13 to 9 in the coaches Poll.

This is the sixth consecutive week in which PC has been ranked and the second time and three weeks they have made it in the top ten.

In the AP Poll, the Friars are ranked ahead of Kentucky and Xavier at 9 and 10 respectively while behind North Carolina and Arizona at 6 and 7 respectively.

The AP Poll ranks Kansas as the number one team in the country and Oklahoma as the number two team in the country.

In the coaches poll, PC is ranked ahead of Duke and Miami at 10 and 11 respectively and just behind North Carolina and Kentucky at 7 and 8 respectively.

The Coaches Poll ranks Oklahoma as the number one team in the country and Kansas as the number two team.

RPI Ranking

The Friars now have the 9th highest RPI in the country. Last week providence was ranked 15th.

The RPI rankings measure the teams strength of schedule and is adjusted based on wins and losses and who those wins and losses come against.

Next up

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, January 5th when they host Marquette at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

The Friars are 2-0 in the Big East and 14-1 overall on the season and riding an 8 game winning streak, their longest winning streak since 1993-1994. That streak extended to the post season. 

Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
