NEW: PC Basketball Falls to 17 in National Poll

The Providence College Friars men's basketball team fell to a tie for 17 in the Coaches Poll and 20 in the AP Poll on Monday. The Friars are coming off an 0-2 week in which they lost on the road to DePaul and at home to #3 Villanova on Saturday. 

This marks the 11th straight week in which Providence has been ranked. This is the first time that PC has been ranked in the AP Poll for 11 straight weeks since 1977-78, when PC was ranked for 13 straight weeks. 

The Polls

In the coaches poll, the Friars are tied with Dayton at 17 and behind Iowa State and Purdue at 15 and 16 respectively. 

PC is ranked ahead of Baylor and South Carolina at 19 and 20 respectively. 

In the AP poll, Providence is ranked 20, behind Purdue and Dayton at 18 and 19 respectively, while ahead of Baylor and Kentucky at 21 and 22 respectively. 

The Friars are still one of three teams from the Big East in the national polls. 

Xavier is ranked 4 in Coaches Poll and 5 in the AP Poll, while Villanova is ranked number one in both polls. 

RPI Rankings 

Providence has dropped out of the most recent RPI rankings after ranking 24 last week. 

The RPI rankings measure the teams strength of schedule and is adjusted based on wins and losses and who those wins and losses come against.

Next up 

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, February 10 when they visit Marquette. PC lost at home to Marquette earlier in the season.
