PC's Defense Comes Up Big, Beat Georgetown 60-57 in OT

"it was a great team win, totally different game then at Marquette and at Butler, we got to find a way to score the ball, we played 45 minutes and scored 60 points," Providence College head coach Ed Cooley said after the game. The Friars shot just 31 percent from the field, the Hoyas only shot 37 percent.

Overtime
In the OT period, the Friars led 53-52 when Kris Dunn nailed a three to put Providence up 56-52, sending the building into a frenzy. Georgetown got to within one, 58-57, with 16 seconds left and trailed by three after Kris Dunn knocked down two free throws.
The Hoyas had a final possession with ten seconds left but did not get a shot off as the Friars defense held their ground.
The Leaders
LaDontae Henton led the Friars with 19 points on four of 16 shooting from the field and ten of 14 from the free throw line. Henton also pulled down seven rebounds.
Kris Dunn followed up with 16 points and nine assists, he also added three steals.
The Hoyas were led by Joshua Smith who netted 15 points on five of nine shooting, Smith also pulled down 12 rebounds.
Next on the schedule
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, January 14 when they host St. Johns at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Five Takeaways From the Friars 60-57 Win Over Georgetown
Bounce Back Performance
After getting benched in the second half of the Friars last game against Butler, Carson Desrosiers performance on Saturday against Georgetown was a focus.
Desrosiers played really well, netting nine points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and grabbing ten rebounds. Desrosiers also added four blocks in the game.
Overall it was a bounce back performance for Desrosiers and something the Friars need him to continue to do.
Defensive battle
This was a good ole fashioned defensive battle between the Friars and Hoyas.
Both teams had big lineups and getting into the lane was not an easy thing to do and neither team shot well at all.
PC shot 31 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point land while the Hoyas shot 37 percent from the floor and 24 percent from three-point land.
The Friars defense came up with a couple of big stops in the OT period to win the game despite the poor shooting percentage.
Points off turnovers.
Overall, each team's stats were pretty close but one area the Friars dominated in was the turnover department.
The Friars forced Georgetown in 15 turnovers, seven of which were steals and then converted those turnovers into 23 points.
The Hoyas only forced Providence into eight turnovers, six of which were steals, but converted for only eight points.
Kris Dunn
Back in the comforts of home, Kris Dunn played a great game for the Friars.
Dunn hit the biggest shot of the game in the overtime period with just over three minutes to go when he knocked down a three to put PC up 56-52 and then nailed his free throws at the end of the period to seal the win.
Dunn netted 16 points and dished out nine assists. Dunn also had three steals and grabbed three rebounds in the game.
LaDontae Henton
LaDontae Henton led the Friars with 19 points on 4-of-16 shooting from the field but knocked down 10 of his 14 free throws. Nobody shot well in this game for either team and Henton fell into that category.
However, he got himself to the free throw line and also was effective on the boards.
