Pepperdine's Fred Wedel Wins Northeast Amateur

Pepperdine graduate Fred Wedel shot a 6-under par 270 including a 2-under 67 on Saturday to win the Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club on Saturday afternoon. 

"It was a special week. I was telling the guys after the round that this is my favorite amateur invite in the world. I love coming here and it is an honor to win," Wedel said. 

This was Wedel's second win of the week as he won the Texas Amateur last Sunday.

From a Fast Start to Holding on

Wedel birdied 6 of the first 15 holes to get to 4-under for the day and 8-under for the tournament but bogeyed the final two holes to take a score of 6-under into the clubhouse. 

Sean Crocker was tied for the lead as he came up 18 just a few minutes later, however, he was unable to convert a 4-foot par putt to force a playoff.

Wedel played four years of  golf at Pepperdine where he was a three time all-West Coast Conference selection. 

He plans to turn pro after the U.S. Amateur.
