Second-Half Shooting Woes Cost Brown in 76-56 Loss to Navy

The Brown Bears men’s basketball team’s offense went cold in the second half as the Bears fell to the Navy Midshipman 76-56 at the Pizzitola Center.

Navy outscored the Bears 49-30 in the final frame.

It is the second straight game in which Brown has been outscored by double digits in the second half.

One positive for Brown was that Brandon Anderson returned to the lineup and led the team with 19 points.

Anderson missed the last game with an injury.

The Bears have now lost two straight games and fall to 4-3 on the season.

Navy improves to 4-3.

Brown Offense Goes Cold in 2nd Half 

After trailing 27-26 at the half, the Bears opened the half on a 9-2 run to take a 35-29 lead on a three from Anderson with 16:53 to play.

Navy would rally to tie the game at 37 on a layup by Evan Wieck with 14:30 to play in the half before a three by Brown’s Zach Hunsaker gave the Bears a 40-37 lead with just under 14 minutes left.

The two teams would trade leads over the next few minutes before a layup by Brown’s Josh Howard would tie the game at 50 with eight minutes to play in the game.

From there, the Brown offense would go cold and Navy would take over. 

Sparked by a three from John Carter Jr., with 7:42 to go, the Midshipman would close the game on a 26-6 run to cruise to the 76-56 win.

For Brown, the final seven-minute stretch consisted of four turnovers, and just two free throw attempts, both of which were misses.

The Bears made just three shots from the floor in the final seven minutes, and went nearly five minutes without scoring during one stretch. 

For the game, the Bears shot 37% from the field and just 24% from three.

They also committed 15 turnovers, while Navy turned the ball over just eight times.

Brown returns to action on Wednesday, December 4 when they host Merrimack.
