Spieth Scores 31 in Final Game at Brown, Bears Fall 92-78 to Cornell

Steven Spieth scores 31 points in final game at Brown
In the final game of his Brown career, Steven Spieth poured in 31 points, but the Bears fell 92-78 to Cornell on Saturday night at the Pizzitola Center.

Spieth finishes his career with 1,367 points (5th all-time at Brown) in 118 games played, which is 11th most in Ivy League history.

"Our three seniors (Spieth, JR Hobbie and Tavon Blackmon) mean so much to me personally and our program. They have represented our program in so many positive ways.  I'm proud of them and they will be successful moving forward,” said Brown head coach Mike Martin after the game.

JR Hobbie added 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting from three in his final game, while Tavon Blackmon missed the game due to injury.

The Bears finish the season with a 13-17 overall record and 4-10 in the Ivy League.

Brown Can’t Recover from Slow Start

Following the senior ceremony, the Bears got off to a slow start, allowing Cornell to jump out to a 13-0 lead in the opening minutes and then 19-2 lead with 15:56 left to play in the half.

"The way the game started (down 19-2) really set the tone. Cornell was ready from the start and we were never able to get any traction or momentum," added Martin.

The Bears trailed by as much as 19 points in the first half before cutting their deficit to nine, 50-41, at the half.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Brown got as close as six following a Hobbie three.

From that point, Cornell would go on an 11-2 run to take a 67-52 lead with 10:30 left to play in the game.

Brown would trail by double digits the rest of the way.
