Spieth's 25 Points Not Enough, Brown Falls 80-76 to Albany

Steven Spieth poured in 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but it was not enough as the Brown Bears fell 80-76 to Albany in the final game of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-off Tournament at Mohegan Sun on Sunday. 

The Bears fall to 1-4 overall and have lost three straight games, while Albany moves to 3-2 overall. 

For Spieth, this is his fourth straight game with at least 20 points, and the fourth straight game in which he has led Brown in scoring.

Brown's Comeback Falls Short

After leading 39-30 at the half, the Bears fell behind by as much as 14 points, 64-50, in the second, but would climb back to within two after a Spieth layup made the score 71-69 with 1:20 left to play. 

Albany’s Joe Cremo put the Great Danes up 76-71 after two free throws before Brown made another run. 

Obi Okoli converted a layup to pull the Bears within three, 76-73, with 17 seconds left. After two more free throws from Cremo, Okoli knocked down a three to pull Brown within two, 78-76, with 4.9 seconds left to go. 

Albany’s Marqueese Grayson sealed the game with two free throws with 4.2 seconds left. 

Brown finishes the tournament with an 0-4 record. 

The Leaders

Spieth’s 25 points came on 6 of 10 shooting from the field and 10 of 10 from the free throw line. 

Obi Okolie followed up with 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting in the game. 

Next Up 

Brown returns to action Wednesday, November 23 when they host Morgan State at the Pizzitola Center. 

Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
