URI Breaks Brown’s Streak

The Brown men's basketball team (3-6) fell 66-56 at Rhode Island (7-2) on Tuesday evening inside the Ryan Center in Kingston.

Brown had won the previous four contests.

URI is now 7-2.

After Brown opened the game on a 6-0 run, Rhode Island fought back, taking a 10-8 lead. After taking the lead, Rhode Island held its advantage until Brown launched its 11-0 run with 9:32 remaining in the half. The run began with Brown trailing 18-12, the Bears went on to take a 23-18 lead with 6:09 remaining in the opening half. Jeremiah Jenkins led the way with five points during the run, and Landon Lewis added four.

The Rams regained the lead after a 6-0 run as they went on to take a 31-29 advantage into halftime. The opening 20 minutes featured three ties and three lead changes, Brown outscored Rhode Island 20-14 in the paint in the first half as Lewis led the way for Brown with eight points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Jenkins added seven points in the opening 20 minutes.

 

URI Pulls Away

Jenkins opened the second half with a three-pointer to give Brown a 32-31 lead, it was the last lead of the game for the Bears. Leading 52-48 with 8:21 remaining in the second half, the Rams launched a 9-0 run to take a 61-48 lead, it was their largest of the contest.

Jenkins and Malcolm Wrisby-Jefferson led the way with 12 points; Wrisby-Jefferson had five rebounds and four assists. Lewis and Isaiah Langham each had eight points, while David Rochester added seven points and seven rebounds. 

Brown grabbed a season-high 43 rebounds and 20 offensive rebounds in the loss; the Bears' bench outscored the Rams' bench 23-21.

- Rhode Island held Brown to 19 percent (3-of-16) from three; the lowest three-point percentage for an opponent this season. 
- Tyler Cochran and Jahmere Tripp shared the game-high with 17 points.
- Cochran notched his first double-double of his Rhode Island career. He had 10 rebounds and two steals.
- URI's Tripp's 17 points came on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. He added five rebounds and two steals.

Attendance was 3.575 for the game.

 

NEXT URI

Rhode Island heads to Providence for its annual matchup with Providence College. The game tips off at 12 p.m. in Providence and will air on TruTV.  The Rams won 69-63 last year.

 

NEXT BROWN

Brown will welcome Bryant on Friday, Dec. 5, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Pizzitola Sports Center. Then, Brown will host Elms College on Saturday, Dec. 6, tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
