URI Edges Iona 79-74 in Overtime

Hassan Martin led URI with 27 points
The URI Rams men's basketball team (7-4) defeated the (4-4) Iona Gaels 79-74 in overtime on Saturday night at the Ryan Center. The game marked the final non-conference home game for the Rams.

The Rams trailed by three, 67-64, with four minutes left in overtime before they managed to rip off an 11-2 run to take a 75-69 lead with 21 seconds left to play.

The run was sparked by back to back three-pointers from Jarvis Garrett and then Jared Terrell.

The Rams sealed the game at the free throw line, knocking down four straight, between Hassan Martin and Four McGlynn.

The Leaders

The Rams were led by Hassan Martin who poured in a career high 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end.

URI also has three players with 12 points including Four McGlynn, Jared Terrell and Jarvis Garrett.

URI returns to action on Tuesday, December 22 when they visit Old Dominion. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
