Ben Bentil wins the game for PCThe Providence College Friars (8-1) defeated the (5-3) URI Rams 74-72 on Saturday night at the Ryan Center. The Friars have now won six straight over the Rams and seven of the last eight.
"That was a classic, classic game. It was tough, I thought both teams played hard. I thought in the last ten minutes of the first half they out willed us a little bit, they got to loose balls, made some shots. Truthfully, that's the best that I've seen them play this year," said Providence head coach Ed Cooley.
"Obviously, heartbreaking loss, we played so well. Obviously some wildly exciting sequences down the stretch, you know, they made one more play then we did," said Dan Hurley after the game.
Hurley is now 2-6 in his career against ranked opponents and is still without a win against Providence.

Ed Cooley added, " That was an early Christmas gift, could have gone either way, they could have easily come up with that ball."
The Friars trailed 36-32 at the half have holding an 11 point lead with 13 minutes left but outscored URI 42-36 in the second half.
