URI Football Looks to Clinch 1st Winning Record in 17 Years on Saturday

URI faces Elon
The URI football team will look to clinch the program’s first winning season in 17 years on Saturday when they visit #6 Elon.

Last week’s win over William and Mary gave URI five in a season for the first time since 2010. A win this week seals their first winning season since 2001.

Overall, URI is 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in the CAA.

Elon is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CAA.

Game time is set for 1 p.m.

URI vs Elon

The Rams and Elon will meet for the third time in program history with the teams splitting the first two games.

The teams first matched up in 2016 with URI winning 44-14 on the road.

Last season, Elon edged URI 35-34 at Meade Stadium.

URI Offense

The Rams offense enters the game averaging 32 points per game and 226 passing yards per game.

The offense has been led over the last few games by sophomore Vito Priore, who has completed 59 of 108 passes for 781 yards and seven touchdowns.

Running back Naim Jones will look to build off last week’s performance when he rushed for 152 yards. On the season, Jones has rushed 78 time soft 335 yards and four touchdowns.

Aaron Parker and Isaiah Coulter continue to lead the wide receiver group.

Parker has hauled in 42 passes for 646 yards and seven touchdowns, while Coulter has caught 36 passes for 524 yards and three touchdowns.

URI Defense

The URI defense has done a great job of forcing turnovers so far this season.

Entering Saturday’s game, the Rams are second in the country with 12 fumble recoveries and 13th in the country with a turnover margin of +0.88.

Rhode Island is ninth in the country in turnovers gained with 20.

The URI defense is led by Nas Jones, who has 62 tackles on the season, as well as, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Branyan Javier-Castillo follows up with 61 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
