#15 URI Football Hosts #20 Maine in Battle for 1st Place on Saturday

The #15 URI Rams football team will play their biggest game of the season so far on Saturday afternoon when they host #20 Maine at Meade Stadium in a battle for first place in the CAA.

Maine comes in with a record of 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the CAA, while the Rams come in with a record of 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

If URI wins, it will be their first 3-0 start in the CAA since 2007, when they joined the league.

Game time is set for 12 p.m.

URI vs Maine

Saturday will mark the 97th meeting between the two programs with the Black Bears leading the series 59-34-3.

However, the Black Bears have won the last 11 meeting, including a 51-27 win last season.

URI’s last win in the series came in 2006 when they beat Maine 3-0.

URI Offense

Starting quarterback JaJuan Lawson missed last week’s game with an injury and is questionable to play this week.

If he is unable to go, backup quarterback, Vito Priore will make his second career start.

Last week, Priore completed 19 of 25 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns against Brown University.

At the wide receiver position, the Rams have been led by Isaiah Coulter and Aaron Parker.

Coulter has 29 catches for 463 yards and three touchdowns, while Parker has 29 catches for 439 yards and four touchdowns.

URI’s third receiver is Marven Beauvais, who has hauled in 18 catches for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

URI Defense

The URI defense enters Saturday’s contest with 17 sacks through five games, tied for second-most in the conference.

The only team ahead of them is Maine, who has 22 sacks on the season.

So far this season, Rhode Island’s defense is giving up an average of 23.4 points per game and 337 total yards per game.

URI’s defense is led by linebacker Has Jones, who averages seven tackles per game and has 35 on the season.

L.B. Mack III leads URI with five sacks on the season, to go along with 28 total tackles.
