Vazquez's Two-Run Home Run, 4 Hits Lifts Red Sox Over Blue Jays 6-5

Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vasquez had four hits, including a two-run home run to left the Red Sox over the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Monday night in Toronto.

The win snaps a four game losing streak for Boston as they improve to 74-57 on the season.

The Red Sox now have a 3.5 game lead over the Yankees in the AL East after the Yankees lost to Cleveland.

Vazquez Comes through in 8th

The Red Sox trailed 3-2 going into the seventh inning before rallying for four runs.

Hanley Ramirez led off the inning with a single to center field.

Vazquez followed up with a two-run home run to left field to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead.

Along with his home run, Vazquez hit singles in the second and fifth inning and added a double in the 8th. Since July 29, he is batting .439. 

Mitch Moreland added a RBI Single to score Eduardo Nunez giving the Red Sox a 5-3 lead.

The Blue Jays would walk in another Red Sox run to give them a 6-3 lead.

Red Sox closer struggled through the ninth inning, giving up a two-run home run and walking two batters before closing out the game.

The Red Sox and Blue Jays continue their series on Tuesday, August 29 at 7 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Chris Sale against Toronto’s Brett Anderson.
