UPDATED: Projo Shrinks by 82%, Comic Con Controversy, and Yes, TV is Next

The Providence Journal will stay located at 75 Fountain Street but it will shrink its footprint in the building from 170,000 square feet to just 30,000 sq. ft. The 82% space reduction will force major consolidation.

According to sources close to the deal, if the lease is signed, the staff of Providence Journal will be consolidated to just one floor. The historical aspects of the building - the library, auditorium and dining room may be lost to the redevelopment of the building. The building purchased by Providence developer Buff Chace's Cornish and Nordblom Company of Burlington, MA from the Providence Journal's previous owners - A.H. Belo of Dallas, Texas.

The Projo building was built between 1932 and 1934 and is presently assessed at $10.4 million by the City of Providence.
