RI Unemployment Rate Rises to 4.3% in July

The Rhode Island unemployment rate rose to 4.3 percent in the month of July, up one-tenth of a percentage point from June, announced the RI Department of Labor and Training on Thursday. RI also added 3,100 jobs in the month of July. 

"RI Added 3,100 jobs in July and the labor force grew for 7th straight month. Lots of work left to strengthen the middle class, but we have momentum,” said RI Governor Gina Raimondo on Twitter.

Over the year, the unemployment rate is down one and one-tenth percentage point from the July of 2016 rate of 5.4 percent.

Unemployment in RI

The number of unemployed RI residents was 24,100, up 800 from the June number of 23,300.

Over the year, the number of unemployed dropped by 5,800.

The number of employed RI residents was 532,800, down 400 from the June number of 533,200.

Over the year, the number of employed RI residents was up 10,000 from July of 2016.

The RI labor force totaled 556,900 in July 2017, up 400 from June of 2017 and up 4,200 from July 2016.

Unemployment Across the Country

 The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in July of 2017, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month and down six-tenths of a percentage point over the year.
