Arc Iris: 15 To Watch in RI in 2015

Arc Iris
Arc Iris is a Rhode Island band poised to break out in 2015. In fact, as far as critics are concerned, they may have actually broken out in 2014 -- and GoLocal's music reviewer Ken Abrams has the low-down.

"Led by former NASA employee and founding Low Anthem standout Jocie Adams, the band has been getting great reviews in the US and Europe. Arc Iris is Adams’ vision of her own band, one featuring a multi-layered, textured sound," said Abrams.

Known for their genre-bending approach, the band was described in London’s Guardian as “one minute an alt-country band, the next they're coming on like Liza Minelli in Cabaret.”  Their music has elements of many styles – Folk-Pop, Jazz and Bluegrass... throw in a little Progressive Rock, and result is Arc Iris.  2014 brought the release of their eponymous debut album, an international release on the highly respected indie label “Anti.” It also saw them touring frequently, including a stop at the popular Bonneroo Festival in June.

The band also made several end of the year “Best of” charts, especially those geared toward “artists you may have missed” in 2014. Their album was reviewed widely, and they got 9 out of 10 stars in the British magazine Uncut. Rolling Stone, The New York Times and even GoLocal had great things to say.

In April, the band will be Artists-in-Residence at Aurora on Westminster Street. Every Friday they’ll play a show along with other local bands. They also plan to incorporate local artists and create a magical "Arc Iris space" for the event.
