The Newport Folk Festival is the hottest ticket in town this weekend; it’s clearly the concert event of the year.  If you don’t have tickets (the Festival sold out months ago), we’ve a got a few other musical suggestions. Read all about them in “5 Live Music Musts.”

Newport Chic – Deer Tick’s NFF After-Party

Earlier this week, we highlighted a few artists to check out at the Newport Folk Festival. Click here to read all about it. The ultra-hip might have a ticket for an after-party, including the premier event over three nights hosted by Deer Tick, who will also be playing the Festival on Saturday. Announced guests for the Deer Tick after-party include Robert Ellis, Hamilton Leithauser, and Caitlin Rose - expect more special guests to be added.

Even more After-Parties

The Milk Carton Kids host their own after-party at the Jane Pickens Theatre in Newport tonight and the Columbus Theatre in Providence gets into the act with John C. Reilly and Friends tomorrow night. At last check, tickets were still available for the Columbus show. Newport this weekend – Music all day, music all night, what more can you ask!

Newport Bridgefest Next Week

The Newport Bridgefest was developed to be a bridge between the Newport Folk and Newport Jazz Festivals. It’s a week-long celebration of all musical genres in venues in and around Newport. Many events are free or inexpensive and we highly recommend you check it out. Venues include Channing Memorial Church, Fort Adams State Park, and Sandywoods Center for the Arts. Our picks for each night: Monday - Newport BridgeFest Opening Night Soiree with David Zinno and Jay Azzolina; Tuesday - Songwriters in the Round to Benefit the Rhode Island Food Bank with Allysen Callery, Mark Cutler, Bob Kendall, & Ken Shane. Wednesday, check out Canfield House Jazz Supper Club and Thursday don’t miss George Wein Presents Jazz After Dark.
