5 Live Music Musts - February 21st, 2014

This weekend marks the 11th anniversary of the Station Fire in West Warwick. We remember the victims, their families and friends, and all affected by the tragedy.

Station Fire Fundraiser at Manchester 65

Around the state, several events are planned to honor the victims of the Station Fire this weekend. Tomorrow in West Warwick,Manchester 65 hosts several bands including Fly Trap, Beyond Blonde, Viking Jesus, RI Rocks, Nick A Nees House Combo, Kevin Herchen, David Eldredge and Human Clay (Creed Tribute). Tickets are $10 and the music begins at Noon. It’s an all-ages event and benefits the Station Fire Memorial Foundation. Visit the Foundation website for further information.

Get the Led Out

Tomorrow night, classic rock sounds come alive with one of the best cover bands touring today. Get the Led Out is the ultimate Zeppelin tribute act, sometimes sounding so close to the original it’s scary. They’ll be at Lupo’s in Providence for what is always a great show. Doors at 8PM, show at 9PM, tickets start at $22.50.

Chasing Blue

There are a couple of excellent coffeehouse shows this weekend. Tomorrow night, head to the Stone Church Coffeehouse in Bristol for an evening of Bluegrass with Chasing Blue. The quintet released their upbeat first album, Low Valley, in November 2012 to very positive reviews. Head to the First Congregational Church in Bristol - show is at 7:30 with tickets at $15, half price for students, and kids under 5 are free.

Mary Ann Rossoni

Also tomorrow night, the venerable Stone Soup Coffeehouse in Pawtucket has a CD release party with area favorite Mary Ann Rossoni. The singer-songwriter, artist and community activist is celebrating the release of Edentown, a CD which signals a return to her roots. Michael Laureanno opens the evening. He also has a new album, Pushing Back Wintertime, just released last month. Show starts at 8:00 – tickets are $16 in advance, $18 at the door.

Mozart and Mahler

Finally, Classical music fans can’t go wrong tomorrow night at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium when the Rhode Island Philharmonic returns. Tomorrow’s concert features two well loved compositions, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Mahler’s 5th Symphony. Tickets start at $15 and the music begins at 8PM.
