Cranston Politician Maria Bucci Arrested for DUI

Cranston resident and Democratic politician Maria Bucci has been arrested on suspicion of DUI. 

GoLocalProv has obtained documents showing that Bucci was arrested by East Greenwich Police, who list the offense date as Thursday, December 18. 

“Maria Bucci did operate a vehicle in this state while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs in violation of [statute] 31-27-2,” wrote East Greenwich police.

There were no additional details pertaining to either the arrest or its location in court documents. 

The charge is a misdemeanor; court records show Bucci posted bail ($1,000 personal recognizance).

Bucci is now due to be arraigned on January 5, 2026. 

 

Campaigns and Offices Held

Bucci ran for State Rep in District 15 in 2024; she lost in the general election to Republican Chris Paplauskas.

In 2020, Bucci ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Cranston. 

Previously, Bucci served on the Cranston City Council between 2004 and 2008 and was selected to fill a vacant position on the City Council in 2012.
