About Case

RISP said that ICAC Task Force members recently initiated an investigation regarding an individual sharing files of child pornography over the internet. The internet connection at 136 Parkview Drive, Apartment 1 in Pawtucket was identified as allegedly facilitating the transfer of these files.

On February 6, 2025, members of the ICAC Task Force executed a court-authorized search warrant at Gianopoulos’ residence, said State Police.

Gianopoulos was identified as the owner of the digital media and accounts that contained files of child pornography. He is the Director of Cadet Programs for the Rhode Island Civil Air Patrol and has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since June 1994.

RISP noted that prospective Civil Air Patrol cadets range from 12 – 18 years old.

The website for the program states: The CAP Cadet curriculum is built upon four elements; Aerospace Education, Leadership, Physical Fitness and Character Development. The Program runs year-round, and cadets are afforded many opportunities for growth and development. Cadets can fly, learn to lead, hike, camp, get in shape by pushing themselves to new limits. If you've ever dreamed about a career in aviation, space, or the military, CAP's cadet program is for you!

Prospective cadets must be at least 12 but not yet 19 years old. Squadrons meet for 2 – 2.5 hours per week and usually one Saturday per month, on average, and have opportunities to attend leadership encampments, career academies, and other activities during the summer.

Gianopoulos was arraigned at Sixth Division District Court by Judge Capraro who issued $2,500 surety bail with conditions of no unsupervised contact with minors and limited internet use.

There is no evidence of inappropriate involvement with the cadets as of this time, according to RISP.

RISP asks that anyone with pertinent information regarding Gianopoulos contact the Rhode Island State Police/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at (401) 921-1170.
