Man Shot in Providence - Latest in Violent Week in City

A man was shot in Providence Wednesday night.

The incident reportedly occurred just off of Chalkstone Avenue.

It marks the latest in a week of violence in the city, including shootings, a stabbing, and officers injured during arrests.

 

About Incident

Shortly after 8:30 Wednesday night, police were called to the 1000 block of Chalkstone Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Police said they encountered a victim - a male in his late 30s - suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

According to witnesses, the victim had been on Geneva Street when multiple gunshots were heard and a car was seen fleeing the scene.

The victim was reportedly carried to Chalkstone Avenue before police and rescue were called.

 

Latest Violence in Providence

The shooting marked the latest in a week of violence.

On Monday, GoLocal reported that it had broken the stories over the past three days about a series of violent incidents across Providence.

The four major events included the shooting of two 16-year-old boys, two police officers injured in separate incidents, a 65-year-old man stabbed, and multiple arrests.

Here is a breakdown of 70 hours of violence, from Wednesday night at nearly midnight to Saturday afternoon.

Two 16-Year-Olds Shot on Saturday

Two teenage boys were shot in Providence on Saturday afternoon.

The victims were transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment. 

Providence Police responded to Reynolds Avenue in South Providence shortly before 2 PM on Saturday. 

Police said that they encountered a vehicle with visible gunshot damage - and two male juvenile victims, both later identified as being 16-years-old.
