Multiple Shootings, Report of Gang-Related Stabbing, Overnight in Providence

Providence police responded to multiple reports of shootings in the city overnight -- including an incident by Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza's house.

In addition, there was a report of a gang-related stabbing.

Overnight in Providence 

Saturday 11:15 PM 

Providence Police were dispatched to the intersection of Nelson Street and Whitford Ave for a report of shots fired. 

Upon arrival, police met with the caller who stated to police that while sitting in his backyard he heard six (6) shots fired coming from the above-listed intersection.  The caller then stated to police after hearing the shots he came out to the street on Whitford Ave but did not observe anything.

Police canvased the area and located four spent shell casings at the intersection Nelson Street and Whitford Avenue.

Detectives responded, and collected the shell casings.

 

Sunday 12:14 AM

Providence police responded to 18 Pumgansett Street for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police met with two male subjects who said a vehicle bearing an unknown Massachusetts registration drove up to 18 Pumgansett Street and began to shoot several times into the residence. 

The vehicle then fled the scene, and was last seen traveling inbound on Douglas Avenue. 

Police spoke with two additional male subjects who were both present in the residence at the time of the incident. One subject told police that he was sitting on his bed when he heard several gunshots and observed damage to the interior wall of his bedroom. 

Upon further investigation police located ballistic damage to both the interior and exterior of 18 Pumgansett Street. 

Police obtained surveillance footage which captured the incident.

 

Sunday 1:11 AM

Police responded to the area of 227 Messer St for a report of a stabbing.  

Upon arrival, police identified the victim suffering from a severe laceration to his right forearm area.  Rescue was immediately summoned to the scene, and the victim was transported to Roger Williams Hospital. 

Police were able to ascertain that the victim had been attending a party at the residence. 

During the party, the victim said a vehicle containing three male subjects arrived on scene.  Two of the subjects exited the vehicle and approached the victim.  One of these male subjects stated that he was an MS-13 gang member, before producing a knife and subsequently stabbing the victim in his right arm.

 

Sunday 1:30 AM

Police were dispatched to 85 Atwood Street for a report of shots fired. The caller described hearing four to five gunshots coming from a tan duplex on the corner of Atwood and Dora Streets. 

Upon arrival, the witness made himself known to police and advised police that two subjects possibly involved in the shots fired were in the rear yard of the 85 Atwood Steet.

As police made their way to the front of 85 Atwood Street they observed a vehicle with ballistic damage to the driver's side hood area, driver's side windshield area, and rear-left passenger window.

Police located five spent shell casings and one projectile scattered in the area from 91 Atwood St to 85 Atwood St.
