NEW: RI Gas Prices Rise 7 Cents From Last Week, Near $2 Mark

Rhode Island gas prices have gone up seven cents from last week and are nearing the $2.00 mark of the first time since January, according to AAA Northeast.

“Rebounding crude oil prices, seasonal increases in fuel demand and reduced production due to refinery maintenance continue to be major factors in higher pump prices,” said Lloyd P. Albert, AAA Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs.

AAA's latest survey shows that self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $1.99 per gallon.

Prices have now risen four straight weeks, 25 cents per gallon over that time period. RI gas prices are five cents below the national average for regular unleaded and 7 cents lower than the prices a year ago at this time.
