Providence Police Arrest 17-Year-Old on Gun Charges Following Foot Chase

A juvenile has been arrested on weapons charges after a motor vehicle stop in Providence overnight.

According to police, the suspect -- a 17-year-old male -- fled on foot resulting in a chase by officers.

About Incident 

Shortly after midnight Monday morning, police say they were patrolling in the area of Chad Brown and Douglas Avenue in Providence when they saw a car with heavily tinted windows and no front license plate. 

After running a check on the rear plate — and finding it to belong to another vehicle — police said they attempted to make a motor vehicle stop, at which point the driver got out of the car and took off on foot.

According to police, the suspect dropped a gun before ultimately being apprehended by officers. 

The juvenile already had an outstanding warrant in Family Court for carrying a pistol without a license. 

He was remanded to the training school before a session of Family Court where he will face once again face charges of being in possession of a firearm without a permit.
