Brown Basketball Adds 5 to Incoming Class of 2018-19

Thomas Shaughnessy is one of five recruits joining Brown basketball next season
The Brown men’s basketball team added five players to the incoming class of 2018-19, announced head coach Mike Martin.

Brown's incoming class includes freshman guard Marco Carnes, freshman forward Davis Franks, freshman forward Jaylan Gainey, freshman forward David Mitchell, and freshman guard Thomas Shaughnessy.

"We are excited to add this group of young men to our program. There's very good talent in this class for sure, but we're also excited about the leadership qualities and character of this group. Blended with our strong returning nucleus, we believe the Class of 2022 can help our program continue to improve and compete for an Ivy League championship,” said Martin.

The Players

Marco Carnes

Carnes is a 5-10 guard from Braintree, Massachusetts and Braintree High school.

In high school, Carnes was named first-team Bay State All-Star Basketball team, the Riley Winter Classic Boys Basketball Tournament MVP and a Larry Fisher Holiday Basketball Tournament All-Star.

 

Davis Franks

Franks is a 6’8” forward from Northfield Mount Hermon.

In high school, he was a McDonald’s All American nominee and led his team to the championship game of the National Prep tournament twice.

He is ranked as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

 

Jaylan Gainey

Gainey is a 6’9” forward from Goldsboro, North Carolina and The Academy at Smith.

In high school, he was a three-time All-Conference selection and a three-time conference Defensive Player of the Year.

He is ranked as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

 

David Mitchell

Mitchell is a 6’6” forward from Roxbury, Massachusetts, and the Belmont Hill School.

In high school, Mitchell led his team to the NEPSAC Class A semifinals in his senior season, averaging 15 points per game.

He is ranked as a two-star recruit on Verbal Commits.

 

Thomas Shaughnessy

Shaughnessy is a 6” guard from Needham, Massachusetts and Needham High School.

In high school, he was named league MVP in his senior season and a two-time league all-star.

He is ranked as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.
