Brown Falls in Ivy League Opener to Yale, 80-62

The Bears led 25-24 with seven minutes left in the first half before Yale ripped off a 13-2 run to go up 37-27 and followed that up with a 10-3 run to close out the first half, leading 47-31 as the teams went to the locker room.

Brown was led by Leland King who netted 18 points in the game while Rafael Maia grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Bulldogs were led by Javier Duran who had a game high 19 points.
Brown returns to action on Saturday, January 24 when they visit the same Yale Bulldogs. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

Five Takeaways From Brown's 80-62 Loss to Yale
Leland King
Leland King's play was one of the only positives in Brown's blow out loss to Yale.
King netted 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point land.
King also pulled down seven rebounds and had one assist in loss.
The only negative to his game was that he turned the ball over three times.
Rafael Maia
Rafael Maia was ready to play this game and along with Leland King, he was terrific. Maia had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Maia's 16 points came on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from the free throw line.
Rafael Maia also added one block and three steals in the game.
Maia and King were the only two players in double-figures for Brown while Yale had four players in double digits.
Tavon Blackmon
Tavon Blackmon was nearly a non-factor in this game for Brown. Blackmon played 21 minutes and had four points, one assist and one turnover in the game.
Blackmon was two 2-of-4 from the field, didn't attempt a three-pointer and did not get himself to the free throw line.
Previously, Blackmon had been playing well for Brown which makes this performance more disappointing.
Disappearing act
Cedric Kuakumensah pulled a bit of a disappearing act in this game, the first game of the conference play season.
Kuakumensah only had five points and three rebounds in the entire game. Two of his three rebounds came in the first half.
Kuakumensah did have three blocks in the game but the Bears needed him to rebound and score and he was unable to do that.
Not the conference play opening performance the Bears were looking for out of Kuakumensah.
Needed more
Rafael Maia and Leland King came in and did what they were supposed to do in this game to help Brown win. The problem was, nobody else did.
Kuakumensah only had five points and three rebounds, Steven Spieth only had four points and three rebounds and Tavon Blackmon only had four points and didn't contribute anywhere else.
Brown needed more and will need more as Ivy League play rolls on.
Brown will get another shot a Yale next week on Yale's home floor.
