Cartwright's Double-Double Helps PC Cruise Past Houston Baptist 84-55 at Alumni Hall

Kyron Cartwright posted a double-double with ten points and 10 assists as the Providence College Friars men’s basketball team cruised past Houston Baptist 84-55 at Alumni Hall on the Providence College campus.

The game marked the Friars first game at Alumni Hall since 1972.

They start the season 1-0. 

Friars Pull Away After Slow Start

Providence got off to a slow start in the game and would hold onto a 13-12 lead after Houston Baptist’s Jalen Gates knocked down a free throw.

Back-to-back layups by freshman Nate Watson and sophomore Maliek White would spark the Friars to a 21-5 run capped off by an Isaiah Jackson three with 4:46 to play in the half to put Providence up 34-17.

White led the Friars with 13 points off the bench while Jackson added 11. 

Houston Baptist would get within 11, 34-23, following two free throws from David Caraher with 3:21 to play in the half.

However, PC would close the half on an 8-0 run to take a 42-23 lead into the locker room.

Houston Baptist would not get closer than 10 points in the second half as PC would cruise to the season-opening win.

The Friars return to action on Monday, November 13 when they host #15 Minnesota at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
