Final Seconds Heroics Lifts Yale Over Brown 69-65

Brown's Tavon Blackmon tied the game up at 65 on a layup with 18 seconds left to play in the game. On Yale's next possession, Javier Duran took the ball and held onto it in the Brown end as the clock ticked down. Duran made his move with about 10 seconds to go and buried a jump shots with four seconds left in the game to give Yale a 67-65 lead.

Rafael Maia led Brown with 18 points, nine rebounds and two assists while Steven Spieth followed up with 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
Yale's Justin Sears led all scorers with 27 points while Javier Duran added 24 for the Bulldogs.
The Bears return to action on Friday, January 30 when they visit Cornell. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Five Takeaways From Brown's 69-65 Loss to Yale
Steven Spieth
Steven Spieth's 17 points in the game are decieving because he had a terrible day shooting from the field, only going 2-for12 and 0-for-5 from three-point land. Spieth knocked down 13-of-14 shots from the free throw line against Yale to boost his score.
In fact, Speith has not shot well in three of Brown's last four games:
At UNH- 3-11, 27.3 %, vs Lyndon St- 4-9, 44%, vs Yale- 1-6, 16.7%, at Yale- 2-12, 16.7%
To Spieth's credit he has contributed in other ways. Against Yale on Saturday, he grabbed eight rebounds in the game.
Leland King
The Brown Bears were without leading scorer Leland King in the game against Yale and for the second time in the last four games.
King has averaged 15 points and eight rebounds this season for the Bears and if he is going to be in and out of the lineup, Brown is going to have a tough time winning in conference.
This has to be a concern going forward for Brown
Rafael Maia
Rafael Maia led the Bears with 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 7-of-13 from the free throw line. Maia also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out two assists from Brown.
Rafael Maia continues his good play, having now been in double figures in three of the last four games and shooting at least 60% from the field in those three games.
Maia has also grabbed at least nine rebounds in the last three games.
Kuakumensah
Cedric Kuakumensah had a rough day for Brown mostly because he got himself in foul trouble right from the get go, picking up three fouls in the first half.
Kuakumensah only played 16 minutes, went 0-for-4 from the field and scored two points in the game on free throws.
Kuakumensah only pulled down four rebounds and only blocked one shot in the game for Brown.
This has been a bad stretch of games for Kuakumensah. This game he only scored two points, in Brown's last game he only netted five points and only grabbed three rebounds.
Not a good start to conference play for Brown's defensive weapon.
Overall great game
Overall, this was s great game between Brown and Yale. Neither team led by more then seven points at any time in the game and both team's seven point leads came in the first half, the second half was even closer.
Brown outrebounded Yale 34-31, won second chance points 10-7, and won points in the paint 26-22. Yale won the turnover battle 12-14 and the points off turnover battle 11-10.
All the stats are close, it came down to Yale just making one or two more plays then Brown was able to.
