Sale Becomes Fastest to 1,500 Strikeouts, Red Sox Beat Blue Jays 3-0

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale became the fastest pitcher to reach 1,500 strikeouts as the Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on Tuesday night in Toronto.

Sale reached the mark in 1,290 innings. Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood did it in 1,303 innings.

With the win, the Red Sox improve to 75-57 on the season. They now have a 4 game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East.

The Yankees game against Indians was rained out.

Red Sox Grind Out Win

With the game tied at 0 in the 6th inning, Boston’s Eduardo Nunez hit an RBI double to right field to score newcomer Rajai Davis and give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.

Boston would add to their lead in the seventh inning when Hanley Ramirez hit a home run to center field to put the Red Sox up 2-0.

Andrew Benintendi would hit an RBI single in the 8th to give Boston 3-0 lead.

Craig Kimbrel closed the game out in the 9th for his 31st save of the season.

The Red Sox and Blue Jays wrap up their series on Wednesday, August 30 at 7 p.m.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Rick Porcello against Toronto’s J.A. Happ.
