Slow Start Proves Costly, Brown Falls to Cornell 78-60

Despite 26 points from Desmond Cambridge, the Brown Bears fell to Cornell 78-60 on Friday night at the Pizzitola Center.

Cambridge’s points came on 9 of 24 shooting from the field. It is the fifth time the sixth time this season, and fourth straight game, that he has scored at least 20 points.

The loss drops Brown to 10-10 on the season and 3-4 in the Ivy League.

Cornell improves to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the Ivy League.

Slow Start Hurts Brown

The Bears got off to a slow start in the game and never recovered.

Cornell opened the game by scoring the first 13 points and built a 21-7 lead with 10:43 to play after a layup from Matt Morgan.

The Big Red built up a 33-16 lead with 6:34 to play in the half on back-to-back threes by Jimmy Boeheim and Stone Gettings.

Brown would cut Cornell’s lead to 47-35 at the break.

The Bears would get to within ten, 47-37, in the opening minutes of the second half, but Cornell would go on a 20-9 run to take a 67-46 lead with 12:33 left to go to seal the win.

The Bears struggled offensively, shooting only 31% from the field and only recording eight assists as a team.

By comparison, Cornell shot 54% from the field.

Brown returns to action on Saturday, February 10 when they host Columbia at the Pizzitola Center.

Game time is set for 6 p.m.
