Smart Benefits: Maximize Deductions & Attract Employees With Fringe Benefits

With tax season underway, it’s a good time to consider eligible employee fringe benefits – or perks – you can offer that are both deductible to you and not taxable to your employees to enhance your offerings.

A fringe benefit is a form of pay for the performance of services. While an employer can deduct most fringe benefits as compensation, in most cases, the employee must include them in income. However, according to the IRS Employer’s Tax Guide to Fringe Benefits, the following fringe benefits can be offered tax-free. These excluded benefits aren't subject to federal income tax withholding. Also, in most cases, they aren't subject to social security, Medicare, federal unemployment (FUTA) tax, or Railroad Retirement Tax Act (RRTA) taxes and aren't reported on Form W-2.
