Driver Killed on 95 on New Year’s Eve - Second Deadly Crash in 10 Hours

For the second time in less than ten hours, a driver was killed on Rhode Island highways.

The Rhode State Police report that on Saturday at approximately 11:47 AM, members of the agency and Hope Valley Fire and Rescue handled a fatal motor vehicle accident.

The vehicle was traveling on Route 95 North just south of Kingstown Road in the Town of Richmond.

Witnesses of the crash stated that the vehicle began to operate erratically and exited the left side of the roadway, striking the high-speed barrier.

The vehicle then veered to the right crossing all lanes, and exited the right side of the highway, striking the guard rail end, which caused the vehicle to roll over.

The operator was transported to Kent County Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

The operator was identified as Eric S. Qualey, age 43, of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The accident came just hours after a 22-year-old was killed and two others were seriously injured.
