National Weather Service Issues Flood Watch for Much of RI

Warning goes into effect early Monday morning IMAGE: GoLocal
The National Weather Service has issued a “flood watch” for much of Rhode Island.

The watch goes into effect on Monday morning at 2 AM and is in effect through Tuesday morning.

The massive storm is forecasted to run to the west of much of Rhode Island, but significant impacts could be felt on the state on Monday and Monday night.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM EDT MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

MORNING...

 

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

 

* WHERE...All of Rhode Island, except for Block Island.

 

* WHEN...From 2 AM EDT Monday through Tuesday morning.

 

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of streets, urban and poor drainage areas. Rivers, creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

 

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected late

    tonight through Monday night. Storm total rainfall of 1 to 3

    inches is expected across the watch area, but localized

    higher amounts are possible, especially where thunderstorms

    develop and move over the same areas. Thunderstorms will have

    the potential to produce rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per

    hour, which will elevate the risk of urban and street

    flooding along with localized flash flooding.
