Martinez was previously arrested in 1999 — and sentenced to 40 years in prison — for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old.

He was released from prison in March of 2020.

Targeted Undocumented Women

“One of his motives to put out a card or ad for someone for cleaning — people would answer ads and at least three occasions [victims were reportedly assaulted] at 552 Union Avenue,” said Lapatin.  The Union Avenue location is Martinez's residence.

“Prior to this detectives were on the trail. We didn’t have enough [until Martinez' arrest yesterday],” said Lapatin.

Martines is being charged currently on two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree assault.

“We believe he targeted undocumented females to pull that over their head and threaten to go to police— he is what you would call a super predator and thankfully he is now at the ACI,” he said.

Lapatin encouraged any other victims to come forward.

“It will be dealt with the most secrecy we can afford. He is off the street,” he said.

Family Service of RI is assisting victims.
