Brown Falls to Princeton 83-59

Mike Martin
The Brown Bears men's basketball team (5-12, 0-3 Ivy) fell 83-59 to (12-4, 2-0 Ivy) Princeton on Friday night at the Pizzitola Center. Brown has now lost three straight games and four of their last five.

"I think there is a lot of places you can kinda look when you are breaking down this game and why the score was what it was, but I think you have to start with the amount of turnovers we had on offense which led to easy baskets for Princeton. You have to look at the points in the paint, second chance points, all those things are a part of it but far and away it was our inefficiency on offense," said Brown head coach Mike Martin after the game.

The Bears gave up 46 points in the paint, turned the ball over 20 times and gave up 18 second chance points in the game.

The Bears trailed 37-21 at the half but opened the second on a 6-2 run on back-to-back three-pointers from Steven Spieth and JR Hobbie to get within 12, 39-27, in the opening minutes of the half.

However, Princeton crushed any hopes of a come back as they responded with a 9-0 run of their own to go up by 21, 48-27, with 15:25 left to play in the game.

Brown would not get closer than 18 points the rest of the way as Princeton would cruise to the win.

The Leaders

Brown was led by Steven Spieth who netted 24 points on 7 of 7 shooting from the field and 9 of 10 from the free throw line. Spieth was the only player to reach double figures for Brown.

Tavon Blackmon followed up with 7 points and 5 assists.
